"It’s about choosing yourself."

Why I Wrote It

Be Both is the story I never saw on shelves growing up. It’s the one I needed.

I wrote this book because I never realized that being different didn’t mean I had to choose which part of me to hide.

Be Both is the story I never saw on shelves growing up. It’s the one I needed.

I wrote this book because I never realized that being different didn’t mean I had to choose which part of me to hide.

I wrote this book to invite you into my story and, I hope, into your own.

I wanted you to know that if you’ve ever felt split between two worlds, pulled in opposing directions, or told you had to choose one identity over another - you are not alone. I’ve lived that tug-of-war for decades. I’ve worn masks, performed roles, and chased approval until my legs gave out. I’ve been both the kid who wanted to be chosen and the adult who didn’t know how to stop performing long enough to truly belong.

And I’ve also learned that the very parts of me I once thought disqualified me from acceptance - my contradictions, my dualities, my “too muchness” - are the parts that make me whole.

This book is about that truth - my truth:

I can be both. And so you can you.

What It Is

Why I Wrote It

Why I Wrote It

This is a book written to remind you that you are not a profile picture or a highlight reel. You are a full human being - messy, magnificent, and multidimensional.

Be Both is a book about embracing that truth. It’s about learning to be all of who you are - even the parts that seem to contradict each other - and using that integration as your superpower.

Be Both is your permission slip to color outside the lines.

This book is a bridge between science and soul. Between narrative and neuroscience. Between self-help and self-acceptance.

It’s about remembering who you were before the world told you to choose.

It’s about choosing yourself. And it’s about how you can be who you are and what you love.

You can BE BOTH.

This book is for anyone who’s ever felt like they don’t fit.

It’s for the middle schooler who secretly loves painting but hides their sketches behind test prep.

It’s for the middle schooler who secretly loves painting but hides their sketches behind test prep.

It’s for the college student stuck between two majors - one that feels safe and one that feels alive.

It’s for the adult who still hears the voice of that childhood bully in their head.

It’s for the parent wondering how to help their child look up from a screen and into the eyes of the people who love them.

It’s for the teacher trying to create space for creativity in a system that rewards conformity.

You will love this book if you are a member of Gen Z or Gen Alpha, who knows what it is to feel the relentless pressures of the online world.

You will love this book if you are the parents, educators, and mentors that are looking for the tools to guide and support the young people they love.

And you will love this book if you were born when I was, the last of the latchkey kids that watched the rise of the internet.

I hope you accept this invitation to my story, because I'd love to have you join me on this journey!
